Everything you need to know for simple and correct fitting
Fitting furniture knobs is a simple and quick job, and in many cases it can be done without any particular experience.
In this guide we will look at how to use an existing hole, how to drill a new one and how to choose a screw of the correct length. You will also find practical advice to avoid the most common problems during installation.
By following these steps, you can fit furniture knobs correctly on drawers, cabinet doors, bedside tables and wardrobes.
How to position the metal backplate correctly
The furniture knobs you receive will be assembled as shown in example 1 in the photo.
To obtain the configuration shown in example 2, simply unscrew the fixing nuts, turn the metal backplate over and reassemble all the components.
We recommend the configuration shown in example 2: in this way, the knob remains slightly farther from the surface of the drawer or door and is easier to grip.
How to replace existing furniture knobs
If your furniture already has knobs, in most cases you can use the existing holes.
1. From the inside of the door or drawer, unscrew the fixing nuts and remove the old knob.
2. Remove the nuts and washers from the new knob. If there is a metal backplate, position it with the wider side in contact with the furniture.
3. Insert the screw of the new knob into the hole, from the outside towards the inside.
4. From the inside, put the washers and nuts back in place, then tighten them until the knob is stable, without forcing it too much.
5. If the screw protrudes too much, mark the excess part with a felt-tip pen, remove the knob and shorten the screw with a hacksaw. Remove any burrs and fit the knob again.
How to fit knobs on furniture without existing holes
If the furniture does not already have holes, you first need to choose the exact position of each knob and drill a through hole.
1. Use a tape measure and a pencil to mark the exact centre of the hole.
2. Consider the diameter of the knob, usually 3.5 or 4 cm, to avoid positioning it too close to the edge of the door or drawer.
3. Choose a wood drill bit with a diameter suitable for the screw. Always check the actual size of the screw before drilling.
4. Keep the drill perpendicular to the surface while drilling.
5. If you need to fit several knobs in line, use a spirit level or a drilling template to keep all the holes at the same height.
Once the through holes have been made, fit the knobs following the steps described in the previous section.
Common problems when fitting furniture knobs
In most cases, fitting furniture knobs is straightforward.
However, you may encounter a few issues related to the diameter of the hole or the length of the screw.
The hole is too small for the screw:
If the screw of the new knob does not pass through the hole, first check that the hole is free from residues or old components.
If necessary, widen it gradually with a drill and a wood bit of the correct diameter for the screw.
Proceed carefully to avoid splintering or damaging the surface of the furniture.
The screw is too long:
Insert the knob into the hole and temporarily fit the washers and nuts. From the inside of the furniture, mark the part of the screw that protrudes too much with a felt-tip pen.
Remove the knob again and shorten the screw with a hacksaw.
Remove any burrs before fitting the knob definitively.
Do not cut the screw while the knob is still mounted, to avoid damaging the furniture or the accessories.
The screw is too short:
If the screw does not pass completely through the door or drawer, it will not be possible to fix the washers and nuts correctly.
Measure the thickness of the furniture and also consider the space needed for the metal accessories.
You will need to use a longer screw, compatible with the knob and its thread.

How to choose metal accessories for furniture knobs
Each furniture knob is supplied with a standard set of metal accessories, visible in the photos of the product page.
The finish of the accessories may vary depending on the model.
The available finishes are antique, silver and gold. Most knobs are supplied with antique-finish accessories.
Antique-finish accessories work well with vintage, shabby chic or rustic furniture. Silver accessories are particularly suitable for light-coloured or modern furniture, while gold accessories can enhance classic and more decorative interiors.
You can personalise the appearance of ceramic knobs by replacing the standard accessories with a kit in a different finish.
As shown in the photos, the same knob can take on a more modern, classic or vintage look simply by changing the backplate and the other metal components.
For example, you can choose silver accessories for white or contemporary furniture, or antique-finish or gold accessories for classic, rustic or vintage-style furniture.
